GPT Image 2.6 Flare, built for fast iteration.

GPT Image 2.6 Flare is the faster of the two image models OpenAI released on November 4, 2026, and it is built for iteration: run an idea, look at it, change a word, run it again. It runs in ReelyArt Studio beside its sibling Sunburst, GPT Image 2.5 and the rest of the catalog, in one composer, at 1K, 2K and 4K on paid plans.

One style, four runs

Change one word, run it again.

Flare is built for iteration. These four icons share every word of the style block; only the subject changed between runs. Rendered at 1K.

Everyday work

Posts, products, characters and backgrounds.

The jobs a fast model gets asked for most, each from a single prompt at 1K. Open any prompt to run it yourself.

A tomato-red square sale post reading WEEKEND PRINT SALE with fanned risograph posters, made with GPT Image 2.6 Flare
A launch post with three lines of copyShort strings in quotes, set where the prompt put them, on a flat graphic field.
Prompt
Bold square social media post for a small print shop's weekend sale. Background: warm tomato-red field with a large cream halftone circle cropped by the right edge. Hero subject: a stack of three risograph-printed posters fanned out at an angle, centre-left, with visible ink grain.
Exact text, rendered cleanly and exactly once each:
"WEEKEND PRINT SALE" as a large heavy headline, top left
"30% off all risos" beneath it
"halftone.supply" small at the bottom left
Typography: heavy grotesque sans, cream on red, strict left alignment. Flat graphic layout, no gradients, no other text, no watermark.
A lone cyclist climbing a gravel mountain pass at sunrise with misty ridges and open sky on the left, made with GPT Image 2.6 Flare
A wide hero with room for a headlineThe left third left open, as asked, for copy set later in a design tool.
Prompt
Wide cinematic photograph of a lone cyclist on a gravel road climbing a mountain pass at sunrise, small in the right third of the frame, long shadow across the road, mist in the valley below and layered blue ridges behind. Keep the entire left third open sky and soft mountain haze, clear for a headline. Warm golden light, 35mm, natural colours, fine grain. No text, no logos, no watermark.
A sage-green steel water bottle with a bamboo cap on a wet rock beside a mountain stream, made with GPT Image 2.6 Flare
A product on locationCondensation, wet granite and moving water around one clean product edge.
Prompt
Outdoor product photograph of a sage-green stainless steel water bottle with a bamboo cap standing on a wet granite rock beside a clear mountain stream, cold condensation droplets on the bottle, splashing water blurred in the foreground, ferns and moss behind. Bright overcast daylight, 70mm, shallow depth of field, crisp product edges. No text, no logos, no watermark.
A round 3D robot gardener mascot with a terracotta-pot body, a seedling on its head and a tiny watering can, made with GPT Image 2.6 Flare
A mascot that reads smallCharacter ideation: one strong silhouette, a few props, nothing extra.
Prompt
Original 3D mascot character for a gardening app: a small round robot gardener with a terracotta-pot body, a single seedling sprouting from its head, big friendly round eyes on a dark visor, short stubby arms holding a tiny watering can, standing full body in a cheerful idle pose. Polished animated-feature style, soft tactile materials, strong silhouette, centred on a flat mint-green background with a soft contact shadow. No text, no logo, no watermark.
An overhead brunch table with shakshuka, sourdough, berries, two coffees and hands reaching in, made with GPT Image 2.6 Flare
An overhead table for a feedMany dishes, hands at the edges, one even daylight.
Prompt
Overhead flat-lay photograph of a weekend brunch table for four: shakshuka in a cast-iron pan, a board of sliced sourdough, a bowl of berries and yoghurt, two flat whites, a small vase of wild flowers, linen napkins and hands reaching in from the edges of the frame. Bright natural daylight, pale stone table top, fresh saturated colours, crisp detail. No text, no logos, no watermark.

A vertical story backgroundWarm inside, cool street outside, and a darker top quarter left for a caption.
Prompt
Vertical photograph of a tiny ramen counter late at night seen from the street through a half-raised noren curtain: steam rising from a big pot, a cook in a white headband ladling broth, two customers on stools from behind, warm lantern light inside against the cool blue wet street outside, reflections on the pavement. Keep the top quarter darker and simple for a caption. 35mm, cinematic, fine grain. No legible text, no logos, no watermark.

Flare vs Sunburst

One prompt, both 2.6 models.

The same prompt and size on each. Flare comes back sooner; Sunburst takes longer over the detail.

A crowded stall with handwritten tags

Both set the sign and all three price tags as written. Flare filled the table edge to edge; Sunburst framed a looser stall with more of the market behind it.

Prompt
A flea-market stall of vintage film cameras at a Sunday market: rows of old rangefinders, folding cameras and twin-lens reflexes on a green felt table, small handwritten paper price tags tied with string reading "$40", "$65" and "$120", a cardboard sign reading "FILM TESTED", a vendor's hands polishing a lens in the corner. Soft overcast light, 50mm, eye-level, natural colours. No brand names on the cameras, no watermark.

Glaze, crackle and rain

Both kept the speckled glaze, the crackle and the rain. Flare's fox sits alert and looks out; Sunburst's smiles with its eyes closed, the glaze pooling heavier at the base.

Prompt
A glazed ceramic fox figurine sitting on a rainy windowsill: speckled orange and cream glaze with drips pooled at the base, a hairline crackle in the glaze, raindrops and streaks on the window glass behind, a blurred grey street beyond. Soft cool daylight with one warm reflection on the glaze. 85mm, macro-close, shallow depth of field. No text, no watermark.

GPT Image 2.6 Flare vs GPT Image 2.6 Sunburst

Two models, different jobs.

Flare is the one you start on. Both take the same sizes and cost the same credits, so moving a prompt across is only ever a trade of speed for care.

Why this model

What GPT Image 2.6 Flare is for.

Built to be run again

OpenAI made Flare the quick one of the pair. Keep the prompt short, freeze the style, change one thing and run it again: the weather icons below are one style block and four subjects.

Three tiers, three real sizes

1K for 3 credits, 2K for 4, 4K for 6. Every rung is a bigger output on the same ladder as GPT Image 2.5, up to 2880x2880 square and 3840x2160 wide.

References and edits in the same composer

Attach up to 8 reference images or a photo to edit and say what changes in plain language. When an edit has to hold exactly, the same prompt moves to Sunburst without rebuilding anything.

Newer than 2.5, beside it

GPT Image 2.5 Flare stays in Studio, so the same prompt can run on both generations and you keep whichever suits the job.

Prompt guide

How to prompt GPT Image 2.6 Flare.

Flare rewards a short prompt run many times over a long one run once. Write a style block you keep, and vary one thing per run.

The shape

Subject: the one thing that changes per run
Style: material, palette, mood (keep it fixed)
Setting: background and light
Leave out: text, logos, anything you will add later

A worked example

A single 3D weather icon for a mobile app:
a rain cloud with three falling drops.
Soft matte clay material, rounded chunky
forms, pastel palette of cream, sky blue,
warm yellow and slate. Centred on a flat
pale sky-blue background with a soft
contact shadow. No text, no frame.

Freeze the style block

For a set, change the subject and nothing else. Rewriting the style between runs is what makes four icons look like four different apps.

Start at 1K

Find the idea at the opening tier and step up only for the frame you keep. A bigger tier buys pixels, not a better prompt.

Leave room instead of writing the headline

Ask for an empty third of the frame and set the words in your design tool, where they stay editable. Short strings in quotes work when the words belong in the picture.

Move precision work to Sunburst

If a prompt misses twice because a face, a label or a product shape has to hold, send it to Sunburst rather than re-rolling here.

Use cases

Where GPT Image 2.6 Flare fits.

Social posts and thumbnails

Feed posts, covers and story backgrounds at the pace a content calendar runs.

Icon and sticker sets

One frozen style, many subjects, a set that looks like it belongs together.

Exploring a direction

Render the same brief four ways, pick one, then finish it.

Banners with room for copy

Wide frames with a clear third for the headline you set yourself.

Last verified 5 Nov 2026

What is GPT Image 2.6 Flare?

One of two image models OpenAI released on November 4, 2026. Flare is the one built for fast iteration; its sibling, GPT Image 2.6 Sunburst, is built for detailed work and editing.

Is GPT Image 2.6 Flare free?

It is on paid plans, at every size. On the free plan, GPT Image 2.5 Flare runs at 1K and is the closest model to it. No OpenAI account, API key or ChatGPT plan is involved either way.

Flare or Sunburst?

Flare for drafts, sets and anything you will run many times; Sunburst when an edit has to hold or the detail is the point. They cost the same here and take the same sizes, so switching is only a trade of speed for care.

How is it different from GPT Image 2.5 Flare?

It is OpenAI's newer generation of the same fast model, and it costs more to run per image, so it costs more credits here: 3 / 4 / 6 credits against 2 / 3 / 4 credits for 2.5. Both stay in Studio; run one prompt on each and keep the one you prefer.

How many reference images can I attach?

Up to 8. Give each one a job in the prompt (the subject, the product, the style only), or it may borrow things you did not ask for.

What does one image cost?

3 credits at 1K, 4 at 2K, 6 at 4K. Four variations cost four times that, which is the usual way to use this model. Failed generations are refunded automatically.
