Before you upload.
Will the files work as Twitch emotes?
Yes. Twitch wants one square image with a transparent background, at least 112×112 px, under 1MB — and generates the smaller sizes itself. The 512 px download meets that as-is.
Can the emotes be based on my actual avatar?
That is the point. The emote is generated from the image you upload, so chat sees your character hyping and raging — not a generic face from a pack.
Do emotes stay readable at 28 pixels?
The ones with bold expressions and simple silhouettes do. Generate a few variations per emotion and pick the one that still reads when you squint — the same craft real emote artists apply.
Do I need an affiliate or partner slot to use them?
Uploading custom emotes to Twitch requires affiliate or partner status; the same PNGs also work on Discord, in stream overlays and panels, and as channel-point icons, so the set is useful before the slots unlock.
What about sub badges?
Same flow: badges are square images Twitch scales down (72 px and below), so a clean, simple variation of your emote set works. Favour shapes over detail.
What does an emote cost to make?
4 credits per variation, and a new account starts with 10 free credits — a full first emote wall usually costs less than a single commission.
Can I make animated emotes too?
